Welcome to Rob Lacey’s Drum Teaching Programme
This programme is for all ages who wish to learn how to play the drums. From beginners onward to a professional standard. All styles of music are covered including specialised subjects such as double bass drumming and left foot independence including 3/2 clave.
Although drum exams are not necessary, they do provide a good evidence of your progress. Rob teaches both the Trinity Guildhall and Rockschool.
During the lesson the student will learn to play all styles of music, read drum music, rudimental sticking and play along to backing tracks to help them become fully competent drummers.
Lessons are priced at £31 an hour or £16 for half an hour
Examinations
Trinity Guildhall or Rockschool exams can be taken for drumming.
Examinations are held regularly during the year and are taken at an official exam center.
When you pass you will be presented with an official certificate.
Rob greatly encourages those students wishing to enter the grades with much support.
Examinations are open to all ages and are great way to mark progress and view your own achievements as you learn.
They can also be used as strong evidence of your abilities and may even help you take advantage of the many opportunities in the drumming world.

”Rob is a great drummer and teacher. Very patient but encouraging and dynamic. He has a wealth of experience of gigging and performance so is well set to demonstrate all aspects of drumming. I would most definitely recommend him as an excellent teacher for all ages of pupil.”

”Having decided to take up drumming, my daughter and I have been taught by Rob for over a year. He has a genuine interest in seeing you progress, is a really knowledgeable and keen musician and makes learning great fun. He recognises that people learn at different speeds and in different ways, he is encouraging, and finds really creative ways of helping you develop as a drummer. We have great fun and are pleased with our progress, and genuinely look forward to seeing Rob each week, and would have no hesitation in recommending him as a tutor – in fact we feel lucky to have him as ours!”
Sean Dickinson
”I have been taking lessons from Rob for 4 years now and can confirm that Rob is a professional, patient and knowledgeable teacher. Age is no barrier to Rob as he teaches school children as well as us older pupils (I am in my 60s) and tailors the lesson to the pupil’s ability. He also moves the lessons to days/times that are best for me.
He readily offers advice regarding syllabuses or exam pieces, but allows each student to decide how they wish to progress. Rob teaches one-on-one at his home using an electronic drum kit, whilst the student is sat behind an acoustic one.
Rob is a very experienced drummer who regularly ‘gigs’ with several bands and uses examples from this experience in his lessons when explaining new techniques. He also gives examples where well-known bands use the rhythm he is teaching.
I have recommended Rob to several people who want to learn to play the drums correctly and will continue to do so.”
